From next week there will be a new smartphone app providing information on the cycling provision at the different train stations around the country and also on the different trains that will be running according to the website road.cc. The app will be called PlusBike and has been developed by the Association of Train Operating Companies & National Rail and was funded by the Department for Transport. Transport Minister Robert Goodwill MP launched the app in Cambridge saying
“The new PlusBike app will help people get information about their local facilities so they can plan ahead. Used together, bikes and rail can help reduce carbon, cut congestion and deliver real economic benefits so we want it to be as easy as possible for people to cycle to their local train station.” taken from road.cc
The app is planned to include information on:
- The level of cycling facilities at any given station
- The number and type of cycle parking spaces
- Cycle hire facilities at the station, with the app providing a direct link to any existing hire scheme near to the station
- Cycle carriage on different train services
