The BBC has a report on a recently published study from Cambridge University. The 12 year study showed that inactivity contributed to around 676,000 deaths per year whilst Obesity only contributed to 337,000.
“”The greatest risk [of an early death] was in those classed inactive, and that was consistent in normal weight, overweight and obese people,” one of the researchers, Prof Ulf Ekelund told BBC News. ”
So even if overweight the single best thing you can do for your health (other than stopping smoking) is to start doing 20 minutes of strenuous exercise per day.
